Dear Bride-to-be,
The day I got married, the last thing I wanted to be thinking about was lipstick. I had other things to focus on: my friends, my family, my vows, the rain clouds looming in the sky, the momentous leap that Danny and I were about to take together. Of course, this doesn’t mean I didn’t care what I looked like. Like any woman on her wedding day, I wanted to feel special, to look my best, to be beautiful. I just wanted it to happen with barely any effort… with one quick wave of a wand. Like magic. My friend Kimberlea, it turns out, knows how to make magic happen.
A few weeks before the wedding, Kimberlea came over with her kit to discuss the big day. I told her I didn’t want to spend hours on make-up. I said I wanted to look different… radiant, glamorous even, but still feel natural, like myself. It felt like a lot to ask for, but Kimberlea understood immediately. She nodded and smiled, then took out her wands. Less than twenty minutes later, she held up a hand mirror. The face I saw looking back at me was my own, recognizable, but at the same time, transformed. I was radiant, glowing, glamorous, the best version of myself. The afternoon we got married, Kimberlea showed up in the Berkshires and, with laughter and ease, made that same face appear. Kimberlea knows how to listen.
